3rd, 1943 One of the most extraordinary acts of heroism during World War II occurred in the icy waters off Greenland after the U.S. Army transport ship Dorchester was hit by a German torpedo and began to sink rapidly. When it became apparent there were not enough life jackets, four U.S. Army chaplains on board removed theirs, handed them to frightened young soldiers, and chose to go down with ship.

She was awarded her MD by the Medical Institute of Geneva, New York, in 1849. She then established a hospital in New York City run by an all-female staff. She was also active in training women to be nurses for service in the U.S. Civil War.

Real Life Claim

I was recently told of an insurance claim right here in NC that I felt I should share with you all, as many of us, including myself are dealing with the extremely high cost of adding a teenage driver to our insurance policies.

A couple’s daughter was driving a car and was turning left, she missed seeing a moped and hit it.  The woman will need care for the rest of her life, very sad.  The couples insurance paid out the limits on their policy roughly 300,000 dollars.  Then the woman’s family got an attorney and sued them getting 600,000 dollars in investment property.  The couple did not have an umbrella policy that would have covered at least another 1 million but potentially up to 5 million. (cost 150 to 500 annually). Then the attorney told the couple he would hold them harmless for anymore if they would allow him to represent them in suing their agent and insurance company.  That is still in litigation.

The attorney has taken everything the couple has extra and could take payments out of each paycheck for the rest of their working years, but wants to go for more money by going after the agent and insurance company.  They don’t really want to sue as they have been clients of the agent for 20 years but the attorney is somewhat forcing them to.  He is claiming that the agent and insurance company are responsible for the couple not having higher insurance limits on their policy.

I am sure you don’t want to be sued anymore than I want to.  It is also a shame that attorneys are allowed to operate like this.  Understand that the courts don’t control how much or little the family will get of the settlement.  The attorney sets his percentage of the settlement and the family gets the rest.

This case has forced me to review my business insurance and it should do the same for you.  There are higher limits of liability for your auto insurance as well umbrella policies that cover above your auto or home policies.  Please review that with me or your agent.  How much insurance do you/I need or can/not afford to have?  Good question that needs to be given some thought.
